Roger John Newbound sentenced to death, or transportation to Sydney, Australia arriving 7th February 1837





For those who want to read the original court documents of our convict ancestor Roger John Newbound born 2nd December 1814 in a the village of March, in Cambridgeshire, England. 

Here is a transcription provided by Elaine Collier, one of our rellies in England. 


The King against Roger Newbound, late of March in this Isle Labourer.
For feloniously wickedly and against the Order of Nature with a certain mare and carnally knowing the said mare and committing and perpetrating with the said mare that detestable and abominable crime of buggery not to be named amongst Christians.
At March aforesaid on the fifteenth day of June last.
The Bill is returned. A true Bill.
The prisoner is arranged and pleads that he is Not Guilty.
The Jury sworn and charged are:
Names of the 12 jurors.
Who find by their verdict that the said Roger Newbound is Guilty of penetration.
And judgement of Death is thereupon recorded against him the said Roger Newbound
